☆ about me

Elle Macciola is a freelance artist who independently studies Fine Arts and creates primarily bright anime-inspired cartoons. They love all forms of cartoons and have been drawing for most of their life. Since they started watching television, animation has inspired them to create their own characters. They strive to become a graphic novelist, storyboard artist, and a general illustrator. The main purpose of their art is to bring joy through thought-provoking and pretty work, as well as being able to relate to their audience when we experience Fleur's vision and world.

☆ artist's statement

I mostly draw and design characters from my imagination. I primarily use bright tones to capture a positive atmosphere. As a student never stops learning, I am constantly trying to better my understanding of composition, anatomy, figures, and perspective while developing my own style. A couple of my inspirations are Bryan Lee O'Malley and Brianne Drouhard. I like to have my characters in a consistent halcyon period, to show through them appreciating little things or moments in living a happy life. I usually make works like this to vacation from reality, in a sunshine world where nothing is too serious. Seeing my heartfelt characters smile lets me personally feel their happiness. I also like to express femininity through some if not most of my characters. I intend to excel in anatomy and use exaggerated figures to express positive or negative emotion as accurately as I can. My favorite thing to draw is expressions and I like to explore more cartoonish styles, but I am still learning a lot about what I can experiment on stylistically.

I visually take influence more from Eastern than Western animation through expression. In designing characters, along with human characters, I like to draw other species including anthropomorphic animals or other humanoids. Growing up, I always appreciated human characters with animal features or vice versa. I thought they were imaginative and cute, and I frequently used it in my own drawings; I feel like not enough people utilize that concept. Cartoon works are my main focus, but I appreciate fine arts as well and enjoy the works of Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, and Edgar Degas among more. When I'm drawing things other than cartoons, I favor portraits and life drawing. I learned that once realism is realized, in turn cartoons become a lot easier. Color is very important to me, and I love works with exuberant color schemes. I love to draw characters more than designing backgrounds, but learning to paint has helped immensely as I entertain myself by experimenting with color palettes to continuously hone my skills. I hope you enjoy my work! :)
